Happy Sigmund Rolat Day!

We are proud to share that Sigmund Rolat, Chairman of our Board, was presented today with this proclamation by Bill de Blasio, the Mayor of the City of New York:

“I, Bill de Blasio, Mayor of the City of New York, do hereby proclaim Thursday, June 11th, 2015 in the City of New York as: Sigmund Rolat Day”

“As Mayor, it is my responsibility to look towards a future for our city where all people have equal opportunities for success. And while we must plan for a better tomorrow, it is crucial that we always remember the lessons of the past. Sigmund Rolat has dedicated his life to this goal — zakhor, in Hebrew — keeping his promise to his older brother to never forget all he saw while living through the Holocaust. This commitment has led Mr. Rolat to become a leader in efforts to preserve Jewish history, promote tolerance and peace, and ensure that atrocities of the Holocaust are never forgotten. And tonight, I am proud to honor all he has contributed to Jewish heritage. (…)

His work spearheading the development of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, which highlights the long history of Jewish life in Poland, is further evidence of Mr. Rolat’s leadership in preserving both Jewish and Yiddish culture and, in his words, building “bridges of reconciliation.” (…)

Determined to teach the world about the important role Jewish individuals have long played in Poland and around the world, Mr. Rolat has done so much to strengthen the international Jewish community. (…)

In this spirit of remembrance, I am honored to commend this outstanding New Yorker for ensuring these vibrant traditions will continue to be passed l’dor v’dor — from generation to generation — for many years to come”.

Kol HaKavod, Sigmund!
